Surface Mount Technology

Surface Mount Technology has been around since the 1960′s. At first engineers were just bending the leads of thru-hole components to make them fit on the surface of a circuit board. But today’s SMT is far more sophisticated. There are components so small that if you held a few thousand of them in your hand, you would have a difficult time differentiating them from a handful of sand.

The greatest advantage of SMT is just how small you can make your product because the components take up so little room on the circuit board. The main disadvantage is the relatively expensive capital equipment that it requires to assemble a board with this process. This is exactly why WAi has absorbed those costs already and equipped our facility with just such equipment. So no matter what surface mount designs you have, we can handle it. We’re comfortable building just one board and we have the capacity to build thousands. Our operators have decades of experience and a highly qualified for even the most difficult applications.
