Through-Hole Technology
Posted by Chris Denney on Jun 28, 2011Through-hole technology is one of the oldest forms of circuit board assembly. Still around today and still chosen as the golden standard for high reliability and/or high power applications. This is where it all started for WAi back in 1976, assembling circuit boards for a medical biofeedback company. Back then everything was done by hand and getting 50 boards out of the factory per week was exceptional!
Today it’s a bit more sophisticated. WAi uses a piece of equipment called a Selective Soldering Machine. This machine has a small fountain of solder mounted onto an XYZ gantry for soldering through-hole components on the secondary or primary side of the board. If there’s anything that can’t be done by our selective soldering machine, we still employee some of the finest hand soldering technicians in the country; many of which have worked here for over 10 years. With our equipment and our people’s experience, there’s nothing we can’t handle.
